International Music Summit hits Ibiza

Words: Ben Murphy

Let's get down to business! This week marks the historic first International Music Summit in Ibiza – an event designed to shake up, invigorate, and galvanize the dance music industry, and take it into the future. Taking place from Wednesday 28th – Friday 30th May on the White Isle, the Pete Tong-helmed IMS makes the simple but effective step of transplanting the dance music conference concept to the home of house, Ibiza.

Subtitled 'Back to Business', the International Music Summit unites some of the key business minds working in the world of dance music, with an emphasis on panels, networking and business programming prior to the season's opening parties (31st May-1st June). Panel topics will all be pertinent to the key issues facing music industry professionals today include'The Future of Live Music, How to Stop the Bubble Bursting?' to 'Music in Film TV and Ads, Sync or Swim?' Limited to 300 delegates, the IMS will offer an unparalleled, congenial atmosphere for like-minded professionals to meet and exchange ideas.

Set across three hotels - the Hotel Atzaro, Hotel Fenicia and Hotel Pikes – each selected for their spectacular surroundings, the International Music Summit, whilst business focused by day, will morph into party central at night, with exciting, mould breaking DJ sets by the likes of Richard Norris (The Grid, Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve), Francois K laying it down dubstep stylee, Layo and Bushwacka, Fred Deakin, Sarah Main, Mark Brown, Rob Da Bank and Pete Tong himself.

In addition, Tom Middleton is to create a special 'IMS Anthem' in a workshop on Wednesday, which will then be remixed by Soul Avengerz in a second workshop on Thursday, to be transmitted and mixed live by Tong with the visuals from a leading TV show – just one of the many brilliant elements of the IMS beyond the conference proper.

"I am proud to be launching the IMS at such a critical time for the music industry. This is what we all love doing for a living, but we can all get better at what we do and learn from each other. IMS offers the glamour and glitz of my favourite party island...but with a back to business ethos leading into the big Ibiza opening party weekend."

This inaugural International Music Summit promises to be a momentous opening chapter to a new era in Ibiza's history. More info at: www.internationalmusicsummit.com/events.html.
